Amazon.com Product Description Providing storage capacity of 18 cubic feet, the Atlantis offers convenient features to securely stow your cargo while on the road. The cargo box comes pre-installed with a QuickGrip mounting system so you'll be on the road in seconds, and mounts directly to most after-market and factory-installed roof racks. It not only lets you access your gear from either side of the car using Thule's patented Dual-Side opening feature, but is easy to open and close with an improved locking system that features a user-friendly padded key and readable decal. Thule's built-in safety feature means that the key can only be removed when the box is fully closed, so you don't accidentally lock yourself out. The Atlantis has an eye-catching design, sleek black finish that complements the aerodynamic lines of today's new car designs. It measures 34.4 x 84 x 16.9 inches (W x D x H) and weighs 44 pounds.

What's in the Box? 687B rooftop cargo box, 2 x straps, 4 x slide strips (pre-installed), 2 x keys, and instruction guide Manufacturer's Warranty Limited lifetime warranty About Thule To say that Thule's beginnings in the U.S. were humble would be an understatement. Founding member Ake Skeppner sold products at windsurf competitions on the New England shoreline, exhibited the product line at a number of different trade shows, and even canvassed local retailers in the greater New York area, all from his "office"--a now-famous station wagon. Initial success was found in the small but growing sport of windsurfing where a strong, reliable roof rack was an indispensable piece of equipment. This was quickly followed by success in the ski business where Thule's Swedish heritage certainly helped the product gain rapid acceptance. By the mid-1980s, the company sold products directly to ski and windsurfing shops but sold through distributors to address the large and growing bike business. A risky decision was made to terminate these distributor relationships and sell direct to retailers through a network of independent sales representatives. Much of the company's market success today can be traced to that decision. Shortly after, Ake hired an engineer and set up a small assembly plant in Elmsford, New York in order to design and manufacture bike carriers that would offer the features demanded by the U.S. consumer and compete effectively with other racks on the market. The company has since grown rapidly through product innovation, a commitment to quality, and the continuance of a strong entrepreneurial spirit as well as continuing to evolve their products to meet the needs of users.

Good product November 18, 2008 claydj (USA) I am very happy with the cargo box. Very easy to attach to your rack. Locking mechanism is well put together. No complaints. If I could change one thing, I would have gotten the next larger size.
After a few trips, here is our review October 8, 2008 RJL (Texas) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Thule fits perfectly on our Honda Odyssey. Before the Atlantis 1600, we used a Yakima Rocket Box. The Yakima is very solid, made of rigid plastic, but we could not open our rear tailgate with the Yakima box. So, after reading reviews on Amazon, we decided to get the Thule. We have mixed feelings about the box. The fact that it installs VERY quickly, fits our Odyssey, has excellent practical space, and opens from both sides would have earned it five stars. But there are a few concerns that knock the score down considerably: > A piece of the mounting bracket (the part that sits on your roof rails) keeps falling off. It is held in place by a single screw, and it's made of relatively cheap plastic. I am able to put it back on, but thin plastic that holds the screw looks like it wants to eventually break (sooner rather than later). > The shell of the carrier is thinner and not as firm as the Yakima box. Therefore, at a nominal highway speed of 55 or 60 mph, the wind gets under the front lip of the box, and gives off quite a bit of wind noise. We may notice it more because we have a moon roof; but it is very audible with the moon roof closed. > The hinges on the box are made of pretty thin plastic. I admit they haven't broken, but inspection reveals that the hinges are starting to separate after just two months of ownership. > We drove through a moderate rain storm on the way back from Florida. A bit of water made it into the front of the carrier. I'm thinking that it must have made it in as the wind pushed its way under that front lip of the carrier. > Finally, the silver coloring (if you opt for that color) scratches VERY easily. Be careful when you take the box off and put it on the ground. We still like the Thule Atlantis 1600 but wish the company had spent a little more time on quality issues. Would we buy it again? Probably not. I think we would look for a Yakima that fits on our Odyssey. We have had our Yakima Rocket Box for 12 years, and it's still rock solid.

Attach system weak October 4, 2008 Roger W. Smith (Corning, NY) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have both an Atlantis 1600 and an Atlantis 1800. Good boxes. Problem is with the attach system. While simple, it was probably designed by a Swedish monkey. The part that sits on the cross bar of my roof rack fails at the screw attach point. It is a very weak fitting and held in place by one screw. The monkey would tell you this is not a bearing point for load. Why then does it always fail in this spot?? Get this - the replacement part is $2.60 from Thule direct AND they want $20 for shipping... Now that's a business model!
