3 out of 5 stars Expensive   December 5, 2008

I remember buying powdered milk because it was cheaper than regular.

I can get about 2 more gallons from my local Safeway for less. And this does NOT include shipping..

Might be good for camping.

This is the first "dry milk" I've ever tried and it's quite tasty. I'm used to buying 1-2% at the grocery store, so it being non-fat was a little different to my taste buds at first. That said, it's very easy to mix (it seems to take less than a minute to get a great consistency), easy to store (the box is large, but not gigantic), and very handy for times when you run out or otherwise can't quickly obtain a gallon of the "already liquid" kind.

I also like that I can mix it with filtered water. That makes it seem a bit more pure/healthier, albeit slightly.

I started looking for a new source of dry milk when my local supermarket chain went from offering a convenient 20-quart box for about $17.99 to their new 'largest size' 8-quart box at $9.99. A total rip-off that I was not about to reward. Thank goodness I found this wonderful Saco 40-quart version for a very reasonable price! Apart from having milk for baking, cereal, drinking, etc, the thing I really like is that 1) I'm not lugging large cartons of heavy liquid back home from the supermarket (I don't have a car, so I walk or ride my bike - and Amazon is, of course, delivering to my door, so this time I don't even have to lug a big box of powdered milk from the store!) and 2) I'm not constantly contributing to the garbage, either plastic (the worst) or even paper every time I finish another carton of milk. I have a nice old-fashioned milk pitcher in my fridge and there sits as little or as much as I decide I need on a given day. So convenient, so smart and so good! Highly recommended!

I started looking online for a milk alternative since I'm in college, need breakfast, and don't want to pay $4.50 for a half gallon of milk. I decided on Saco after reading reviews, and this stuff rocks. It tastes better, drinks fresher, and doesn't give me gas in the least bit. I'm never buying store milk again.

5 out of 5 stars good milk, quick & easy   August 5, 2008

When Bob's Red Mill went up, I decided to give this one a try, and I'm glad I did. Bob's is good, but not so much for drinking straight. I haven't enjoyed a glass of ice cold milk in a while, it was great.

Comes in one big bag inside of a big box, so I transferred some to another container.
