Ignore Gladstone above August 7, 2007 WritingMama (Florida) 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
As a mother who has an ASD child (and also a scribe who knows Gladstone's work) she hasn't a clue what it's like to teach an ASD child to write. I'm sure she'd prefer you use her program. If you have a child with fine motor issue or who is on the spectrum OR you're just looking for an easy program to teach your child to write...hands down HWOT is the best. There's a reason that curric's like Sonlight now include HWOT. There's a reason so many OTs use this program! My son is ASD and this program truly helped us. I've also used with 3.5 yo dd who wanted to learn to print and she did (upper and lowercase) within approx 3 months. It was cake.
not without tears January 18, 2007 K GLADSTONE (Albany, New York) 7 out of 16 found this review helpful
My familiarity with the program called "Handwriting Without Tears" comes largely from the many "successful graduates" of this program who have later shown up at my office in dire need of handwriting help. (I work as a handwriting instruction and remediation specialist.) Many of my clients, young and grown report having cried over this program and/or over their non-success with it. Among other concerns, the program apparently gives no attention to gaining speed or to maintaining legibility at speed. In my observation and experience, this makes the program rather questionable as a choice for anyone seeking practical handwriting skills.
