Product Description

The Economist is the premier source for the analysis of world business and current affairs, providing authoritative insight and opinion on international news, world politics, business, finance, science and technology, as well as overviews of cultural trends and regular Special reports on industries and countries.

Established in 1843 to campaign against the protectionist corn laws, The Economist remains, in the second half of its second century, true to the liberal principles of its founder. James Wilson, a hat maker from the small Scottish town of Hawick, believed in free trade, internationalism and minimum interference by government, especially in the affairs of the market. The Economist also takes a fiercely independent stance on social issues, from gay marriage to the legalisation of drugs, but its main service to its readers is as a global newspaper: To uncover new ideas from all around the world.

The Kindle Edition of The Economist contains all of the articles and graphics found in the print edition, but will not include all photos. For your convenience, issues are auto-delivered wirelessly to your Kindle each Friday at the same time the print edition hits the newsstand.

1 out of 5 stars Not available in Europe???!!!!   July 28, 2010

How can The Economist Kindle version not be available to customers in Europe??? Forget the debate about pricing (although it is outrageous!), and let's talk about why only US residents (or people lucky enough to have a US bank account) should have access to this!

I just received an offer for an annual hard copy subscription for $106.00 a year. Why are you guys charging more for the Kindle subscription that for the hard copy. It makes no sense. I would expect somewhere around $70.00 a year for the kindle version, maybe even less, certainly not more than the hard copy. Get with it guys, this is a rip off.

1 out of 5 stars What?!? How much?!?   July 14, 2010

Just received my Kindle yesterday. The first thing I wanted to do was get a subscription to The Economist. I was shocked to see the monthly subscription rate! I too will have to wait until it is about half that price. Guess I should have done better research before buying my kindle. I think The Economist is by far the best news magazine available. I'll have to contine reading it at the public library.

3 out of 5 stars Only on Kindle; not in Kindle app   July 10, 2010

I was ok paying more for the Kindle subscription due to having it the day of release. However, I am very disappointed that I can't read my copy of The Economist using the Kindle software application for my iPad and Mac. Big letdown.

3 out of 5 stars Why all of the crying about pricing?   June 28, 2010

Maybe I have been getting ripped off with the print version, I have been paying $29 for a 3 month subscription for years. My Kindle DX is shipping and this will be my second purchase (after the WSJ) so I have not actually viewed the product yet, which is why I only gave three stars.

I never use the online version and could care less about online access.

I just want the newpaper delivered dry and intact, something the USPS seems to have trouble doing.
