The JBL EON15 G2 delivers 300 watts of power to a 15-inch Neodymium Differential Drive low frequency driver. The driver boasts a dual neodymium magnet and dual voice coil motor that delivers high output and low distortion from a lightweight woofer. Meanwhile, the high frequency amplifier delivers 100 watts of power to a 1.75" titanium diaphragm compression driver with ferro-fluid cooling. The EON15 G2 is at home as a main PA or on stage as a monitor or instrument amplification system. Musicians who own an EON speaker can use them singly for casual solo or duo work, or combine multiple EONs into a complete, powerful PA system. Instrumentalists will appreciate the expanded input capabilities of the EON15 G2. With its integral three-input mixer, the EON15 G2 can directly accommodate electronic keyboards, drum machines, electrified acoustic guitars, and microphones. Electric guitarists using the new generation of amplifier modeling modules will find that the clean, full-range sound of EON15 G2 reproduces all of the subtle tones the modules can produce. The new "MIX OUT" feature even provides an output from the internal mixer that can be sent to the main PA, making the EON15 G2 the ideal choice for keyboard or acoustic guitar amplification.

4 out of 5 stars Workhorse PA speakers, great for most applications   August 29, 2008

This is a decent speaker. There are tons of PA speakers on the market and there are two flavors of them:

Active - Amplification built in
Passive - Amplification needed

You are going to pay a premium on all active speakers, even if you factor in cost of an amp. However, the benefit is that you do not have to run an extra cable and set up an extra piece of equipment. So it is very important what application you need your speakers for. If you need to set them up and break them down every time, then you should consider the active type PA's. If its a club or a church etc, where they would be set up once and kept that way, then strongly consider passive type with external amp. You can buy better quality speakers and you can have the amp set up where the rest of your equipment is for adustments.

Now for the rest.

Sound: I've worked around music for a long time in some way shape or form and have heard many audio setups through many price ranges. The application that these PA Speakers are intended for are generally going to be temporary type environments like weddings, bars, live bands/dj etc. Most of those environments are going to be loud without the addition of sound, so we dont have to worry as much about sound quality.

These speakers have a decent sound quality and I would give them an 7.5/10, there are several other options you can choose that will give you better sound, however all of them are more expensive. So for all intents, the JBL EON 15G2 for its price range is the best you can get in an active speaker setup. I will make an exception to that, the Mackie SRM450v2 PA's cost exactly the same price, sound better, way 10 lbs less, however they cannot be turned up as loud and have less bass.

The JBL's will take a lot of abuse! I've dropped mine, transported and had them sitting in a car at 150+ degrees, cranked them etc and you know what, I honestly dont really know how loud they go either. I've had them loud enough to where I was scared I was going to see smoke or hear popping and well.. they kept going. They've also never overheated and shutdown or clipped on me either.

On Board EQ: The JBL's have an XLR input and an output, 2 separate line in's and a treble and bass adjustment. Each input has its own gain adjustment, which is really really cool for certain applications. If you're in a band you can plug three different things into it then run the line out to other speakers without having to use an external mixer. Which is one thing i like the JBL better than the Mackie on. Mackie SRM450v2's only have XLR in and no treble bass adjustment other than cutoff switches.

Oh BTW, there is a big difference between the standard JBL 15" and the EON15 and EON15 G2. The EON15 G2 is the best of the three. Also you have a few other options below this price, but only consider them if you dont care how it sounds. Because you're better off getting one of these than two $300 PA speakers. Dont even bother with Behringer or Pyle Pros, they dont sound any where near as good, and will break on you and end up costing the same money over time.

So to wrap this all up, the EON15 G2 PA Speakers are good for most applications. If you only want to carry 1 or 2 of these with you and not much else, the JBL is going to be the better choice over the Mackie. However if weight is an issue, these things weigh about 50 lbs each, the Mackies weigh significantly less at about 41 lbs, though they seem even lighter than that to me. The Mackie SRM450v2 is a much, cleaner sounding speaker however in many cases you will need to add a subwoofer to boost the lows they of course are only 12" subs too so that could explain it :)
