Product Description A Walt Disney Classic movie, Beauty and the Beast is a childs redention of the classic story. comes in a plastic protective case and VHS tape plays good.
Amazon.com essential video The film that officially signaled Disney's animation renaissance (following The Little Mermaid) and the only animated feature to receive a Best Picture Oscar nomination, Beauty and the Beast remains the yardstick by which all other animated films should be measured. It relates the story of Belle, a bookworm with a dotty inventor for a father; when he inadvertently offends the Beast (a prince whose heart is too hard to love anyone besides himself), Belle boldly takes her father's place, imprisoned in the Beast's gloomy mansion. Naturally, Belle teaches the Beast to love. What makes this such a dazzler, besides the amazingly accomplished animation and the winning coterie of supporting characters (the Beast's mansion is overrun by quipping, dancing household items) is the array of beautiful and hilarious songs by composer Alan Menken and the late, lamented lyricist Howard Ashman. (The title song won the 1991 Best Song Oscar, and Menken's score scored a trophy as well.) The downright funniest song is "Gaston," a lout's paean to himself (including the immortal line, "I use antlers in all of my de-co-ra-ting"). "Be Our Guest" is transformed into an inspired Busby Berkeley homage. Since Ashman's passing, animated musicals haven't quite reached the same exhilarating level of wit, sophistication, and pure joy. --David Kronke --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

beauty and the beast July 31, 2010 marshall very pleased with the product arrived in a timely manner I highly recomend this seller
Best ever Beauty and the Beast July 30, 2010 The first time I watched Beauty and the Beast was in the movie theater. My mother-in-law and I went to see the movie five days before my daughter was born. I cried in several places and decided that Beauty and the Beast was the best over all production of its kind that I had ever seen. Of course, we bought the video to share with my daughter and she has heard my story about seeing the movie just before she was born. She is now 18 years old and will be leaving for college in any a couple of weeks. She decided this year that the "Special Platinum Edition" of Beauty and the Beast would be the perfect birthday gift for me this year. And it was!!! She, my husband, and I watched it on my birthday, viewed most of the additional sections, and had a wonderful time. And, of course, I still cried in several places.

When I ordered this product, I was under the impression I was purchasing a gently-used copy of the original DVD. When I received it, I was excited to see it was still in the shrink wrap - I had paid for a used copy and gotten a new one! But my excitement was short-lived. The DVD would not play in my DVD player. It worked on my computer and my mom's computer, but not in my DVD player. So I gave the disk to my parents, hoping it would work for them. It did, but the colors are off, the DVD skips, and this little blinky menu option spent the entire film turning on and off in the top right corner. I gave this product two stars because it does play in at least one DVD player, but I'm disappointed that it's not a real copy. In short: Don't buy from this seller unless you want a bootleg, illegal copy of one of your favorite films.
What a classic! July 15, 2010 Debra A. Metzler I had been looking for this DVD forever! I'm so glad I found it, and thanks to the seller for its excellent condition!! I appreciate the fast service and quality!
Amazon needs to fix their product reviews... July 9, 2010 Jerome Vitner (Centreville, Virginia United States) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I spotted this pre-order and since this is my favorite Disney movie I was instantly interested. Many studios have botched blu-ray releases pretty bad. So I scrolled down to look at the comments of others. This product will not be released until October 2010. Instead of a discussion of the pros and cons of blu-ray I find 8-9 year old reviews of the DVD and totally inappropriate (for this product) reviews of Amazon Marketplace orders for the DVD. All of this needs to be removed.
It is good to see that Disney is not only offering this fan favorite on blu-ray with DVD, but is including extras. I give this 5 stars based on the writeup for the 3-disc blu-ray combo pack and my love of this movie. I will update my review in October with an actual description of the product once I have it.
